Do your own Fundraising

Fundraising for Syed Ahmed Shah Trust is a great way of helping the community to continue to gain a healthier educational experience to improve their lives and help contribute to the overall economy of their country.

With your help, we can make a difference to the lives of many people, and together we will go a long way forward.

Fundraising at Workplace

There are many fun ways to raise money for Syed Ahmed Shah Trust  at your workplace. We have listed some but you can always come up with your own ideas. When you come up with an idea please do let us know.

Get your colleagues involved in:

  • Walk don't ride

Sir, step away from the lift! If you work in a high rise building, introduce a 'lift toll' for a day and charge everyone £2 each time they take the lift.

  • Give it up

Get sponsored to give up coffee for a month and to stay away from the staffroom vending machine.

  • Skill auction

Offer your skills and services to the highest bidder. You could offer to fetch your colleague's lunch, type their emails, recycle their unwanted paper. All your fundraising efforts will help our continued research.

  • Famous for a day

All your colleagues put the names of their favourite celebrities into a hat and pay to pick a name. You really have to try to be the person you select, for example, by adopting their mannerisms.

  • Who's the baby?

Get everyone to bring in a photo of themselves as babies, then charge people £2 to guess their identities.

  • Karaoke mayhem

Show your colleagues what a good singer you are (or not!) by taking to the mic for an afternoon of karaoke. Participants and spectators pay a fee to join in.

  • Step back in time

Go back to the 80s, 70s or 60s by coming to work in clothes that defined these colourful decades. Perhaps you were a new romantic or a flower child. Everyone pays £2 to take part.

  • Corporate fundraising

A partnership with Syed Ahmed Shah Trust  can benefit your organisation in a number of ways. You can gain access to new audiences, provide a point of differentiation from your competitors and demonstrate corporate social responsibility. There are also many ways that your business can raise money at an organisation level, such as:

Start a Fundraising Group

There are many fun ways to raise money for Syed Ahmed Shah Trust even through forming a group. This type of fundraising is rewarding in so many ways. It’s sociable and a great way to meet new people, and furthermore the group's efforts contribute directly to helping us continue our work with the community.

Variety

The fundraising activities our groups undertake is very varied in both scale and frequency. While some groups meet every week to hold regular coffee mornings, others may meet up once a year to arrange a dinner dance or a cycle ride.

Support from Syed Ahmed Shah Trust

Each and every fundraising group is supported, valued and appreciated by us. Our team of volunteers would be more than happy to provide materials, offer advice on how best to make an event work and ensure that your group's activity is a great success.

Online Fundraising

The internet is now a popular place to work, shop, and make friends. There are many advantages: you can reach lots of people with minimal effort, check how your fundraising total is increasing, apply Gift Aid to your fundraising. And it benefits us too, lowering our costs to a fraction of other administration methods and allowing us to spend more money on our vital work.

Ways to fundraise online

Online sponsorship

Setup an online sponsorship form for any fundraising idea you can dream up! Sponsored slim, sponsored mountaineer, sponsored bath in goat’s milk – the fundraising arena is yours.

Give in Celebration

Got a wedding, a birthday, an anniversary or another special day approaching? Setup given in celebration page, and ask your friends to donate. Donate in Memory.

Perhaps you want to celebrate the life of someone close to you. You can setup a page in their memory.

Gift Aid for Syed Ahmed Shah Trust

The Government operates a scheme called Gift Aid that allows charities to claim 28p for every pound donated.

So if you donated £100 to Welsh Crescent, it means that you’ll actually be giving us £128!

Giving under Gift Aid means that so much more money can be raised with relatively little effort.

Gift Aid – the facts

For individuals, the Gift Aid rules require the completion of a Gift Aid Form. This provides us with the minimum information required for us to be able to claim Gift Aid on a donation.

Gift Aid can be claimed on individual and sponsorship donations that are made to Welsh Crescent.

Gift Aid applies only to ‘gifts’. That means we can’t use Gift Aid to boost fundraising totals on activities where people have been charged an entry fee or have entered a competition. This also extends to activities where the donor can’t be traced (such as giving to collections).

To ensure that the Gift Aid claim is valid, meaning we can claim the money back, it’s vitally important that all the information asked for on the Gift Aid Declaration Form is provided.

Gift Aid Declaration Form

Any charity has to be able to trace the receipt of any donation on which Gift Aid is claimed, so it’s incredibly important that any forms sent back to us are accurate and complete. All Gift Aid Declaration Forms should include the following:

  • The name of our charity (which our form includes).

  • The full name and home address of the person making the donation, including their postcode. Donations cannot be made jointly.

  • A statement that the individual pays an amount of income and/or capital gains tax that is at least equivalent to the tax that Welsh Crescent will claim from HM Revenue & Customs and that the person wants his or her donations to be treated as Gift Aid donations.

Gift Aid on Tax Returns

  • From 6 April 2004 any person filling out a tax return is able to nominate that any tax refund due to them is paid to a charity instead. This payment gets treated as a Gift Aid payment, meaning we can claim 28p in every pound given.
